Art Club! Proportions of the Human Figure for Middle and High School Online

Thursday, November 19, 2020

Pull out a piece of paper and a pencil and hang with Julie from the Carnegie Center in this live class, Proportions of the Human Figure for Middle and High School. During this 45-minute art lesson, Julie will show you her personal method for sketching a realistically proportioned human body from head to toes.  The methods in this lesson will give you tips for life drawing (drawing a person’s portrait from life–not from a photograph) but you don’t have to have a live model with you to take this lesson.

Because this lesson is not pre-recorded, you will be able to ask questions and receive personalized feedback on your technique. This project is best for ages 5th through 12th grade who have an interest in art.

You will need a mobile device (such as an ipad) or computer with audio and microphone capability. Supplies are common to most households with creative kids, but substitutions are possible. You can also order supplies with free delivery from Preston Arts Center! The following supplies are necessary for this class, and you can arrange pick up a kit FOR FREE at the Carnegie Center for Art and History prior to your class:

  • Several sheets of professional drawing paper
  • A #2, #4, or #6 graphite pencil and/or a piece of condensed or willow charcoal
  • An eraser (preferably kneaded)

Here are some nice-to-have extras that aren’t included in the kit:

  • A drawing board
  • A ruler or something with a straight edge
  • Masking tape for taping your paper
  • A mirror or a patient person nearby to stand for you

Classes are limited to 10 students. Register for this event and you will receive an email with a Zoom link for the class!
