Bob Rollings will be presenting “Hindenburg: Triumph, Tragedy, and Intrigue”. This is a visual history of the Hindenburg air ship launched in pre-war Germany in 1936. The presentation features dozens of period photographs, video clips, and music. The accompanying narration includes a brief explanation of the ship’s construction and the physics of buoyancy. In 1936 Hindenburg provided an elegant and legendary transatlantic passenger service — that was its triumph. Its intrigue was the pre-war Nazi appropriation of Hindenburg for propaganda purposes. Its tragedy was Hindenburg’s dramatic and unexpected demise at Lakehurst, New Jersey, the year following its launch. May of 2017 marks the 80th anniversary of the Hindenburg crash.
