Since 1972, the NAFC Secondary Schools Art Show and Competition has been held each year for students in the Visual Arts classes. Each teacher juries and submits his or her own students’ work. Over 200 artworks are first juried into the show by these art teachers. Works are then judged by a panel of professional artists and art educators. This is the only art show exclusively for the students of Floyd County and the only opportunity for many of these talented individuals to be in academic competition in the Visual Arts with their peers.
Forty first place awards of $25 each (sponsored by donors to the Art Awards Fund) are awarded to four divisions (grades 9 – 12) in ten categories: Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Design, Mixed Media, Printmaking, Functional Ceramics, Fiber Art, Photography, and Digital Imagery. The Art Awards Fund seeks to recognize and reward students, encourage them to excel in the visual arts, and help them develop as fully rounded adult members of the community. Find out more about the Art Awards Fund at www.artawardsfund.weebly.com and Facebook @SecondaryArtShow.
Six Best in Show cash awards are sponsored by the New Albany Floyd County Education Foundation and are given to one student in each grade 6-12. First place awards will be presented in grades 6-8 in four categories: Drawing, Painting, 3D, and Various Media. The 8th grade First Place winners receive $25 each, the 7th grade First Place winners receive $20 each, and the 6th grade First Place winners receive $10 each.
