Give for Good 2021 is September 17!
The Carnegie Center for Art and History is one of southern Indiana’s cultural cornerstones. Housed in New Albany’s original library building, we have ongoing exhibits about the history of the Underground Railroad in our region, and about the remarkable life story of celebrated Civil War nurse Lucy Higgs Nichols. We also feature rotating exhibitions of contemporary art, and many opportunities for hands-on learning. Our youth education program has brought art and history experiences to over ten thousand children both virtually and in-person over the past three years. As a branch of the Floyd County Library, the Carnegie Center is family friendly, accessible, and free admission.
The Carnegie Center for Art and History is a unique institution that brings stories and art to the public to spark connections, think creatively, and explore the world around them.
The Carnegie Center’s youth education program served more than 8,000 children with free creative experiences when it premiered in 2019. At the start of the Covid-19 pandemic we increased our virtual accessibility by zooming into hundreds of digital classrooms across Kentuckiana, giving out thousands of free art kits, and doubling down on school partnerships. This year we are scaling up our education program to offer more hands-on workshops for children in Southern Indiana FREE of charge! Your Give for Good gift will help us continue to enrich the lives of even more children in school classrooms, in the community, and in our galleries.
Our commitment to learning extends to adults too! Encouraging local artists and expanding the public’s access to contemporary art is an important part of the Carnegie Center’s mission. Therefore, your gift will help fund the continuation of our new Artist-in-Residence program, which allows an artist to delve into their own creative practice at an on-site studio in the museum, annually.
Because we have suspended the popular annual gala for the second time in 2021, your Give for Good gift is even more critical. Thank you to our local community sponsors who will match your gift, dollar for dollar up to $8,000!
