On Thursday, June 1, 2017, Paul LePree presented “Ultra Paul Japan Tour Travelogue” in the Carnegie Center’s Jane Barth Anderson Meeting Room. Paul LePree is the owner of Ultra Pop! in Louisville, a toy store dedicated to designer vinyl toys, art and design books, and local art. Paul LePree just completed a “trip of a lifetime” when he traveled to Tokyo and Osaka on a toy buying trip for Ultra Pop! In late April and early May of this year, Paul traveled and experienced contemporary Japanese urban culture seeking out rare vinyl toys and the people who both make and appreciate them. Paul’s presentation was a rich recounting of his experiences in Japan, which included travels on bullet trains, the vibrancy of Japanese city life, anime, manga, Godzilla, Ultraman, and everything in between.
